Friends of Nelson School

Since the days when the Friends of Nelson School group was known as the Packersfield Association parents, teachers, and community members have had a place to come together in support of our school.

The COVID-19 pandemic saw our organization’s membership dwindle, and community events reduced due to the smaller amount of people available to plan and run them. As of the 2024-2025 year, the group has re-branded to be called the Friends of Nelson School, in an effort to expand membership past current families to include alumni and community members from both Sullivan and Nelson. This year has seen an increase in our number of members, who have organized events throughout the fall and early winter. We are looking forward to growing our membership and offering even more events, fundraising, and support for our school.

PTO support in the recent past has included money to fund classroom projects, helping to build classroom libraries, and teacher appreciation events. The PTO has also traditionally purchased a yearbook for every student at the end of each school year. This year, we had our first annual Trunk-or-Treat, and there are some upcoming Spring events that will benefit our school community.

Becoming a Friends of Nelson School member is completely voluntary. We work toward one goal: creating a strong, nurturing school environment for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. We meet once a month face-to-face at Nelson Elementary School, but there are many ways (big and small) to be involved with us.

To become a member of the Friends of Nelson School you don't have to be a parent of a student. All you need is the desire to help our children uncover and discover their full potential. Come help us create the kind of school family where our teachers and our students can do their best work!
